I have found a new (or at least new to me) way to use Wordpress that makes it easier to use advanced features. I shouldn’t have to bother my hosting provider with this.

Here’s the new site link - http://designslink2.wordpress.com

I have also put a link on the new site back to this one in the Blogroll at the lower left in the sidebar.

I am reposting some of the post on this site to get it started so you may see some duplicates.

What is OpenType?

OpenType graphic

This is a very brief explanation of OpenType and a small PDF tutorial on accessing OpenType features in InDesign.

OpenType was developed by Adobe and Microsoft. OpenType fonts are cross platform meaning you can use the SAME fonts on Mac and Windows and from the info I have there shouldn’t be any type re-flow issues when for example taking an InDesign document from a Mac to a PC. OpenType fonts are excellent for print design and support the inclusion of many more characters and special characters in a particular font. Read the rest of this entry »

Pro Bono work for Non Profit’s

July 7th, 2007

I found this non profit organization (Taproot Foundation) which organizes teams of creative and technical professionals to do pro bono non profit work. They work for non profits mostly in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston and Seattle but it doesn’t look like you have to be in those area’s to work with them. If you have the experience they are looking for (3-5 years) you may be able to help a good cause? You will of course want to check them out yourself but from what I have seen they look to be legit. They do all the screening to qualify non profits looking for a grant.

AT&T to Add Rural Mobile Coverage

July 2nd, 2007

AT&T has announced a deal to acquire Dobson Communications which owns Cellular One. Cellular One has a large rural network in many states. Maybe I will have an iPhone in my future?

Read more from my source MacRumors.com. They have linked to the AT&T announcement also so it’s not just a rumor.

Here’s a link to a Cellular One coverage map for MI. If you look at all of the areas together and AT&T’s exsisting coverage MI should be pretty well covered. My BIG question is, is there a National plan for the iPhone?
